As soon as you know you are moving

Make a room-by-room inventory, including garages, lofts and outdoor items. Decide what you want to keep before ordering boxes. Request a removals quote with both postcodes, property details and any likely dates. Identify fragile, unusually heavy or high-value items from the start.

  • Compare written scopes, not just total prices
  • Discuss packing and temporary storage
  • Check parking and access at both addresses
  • Ask what happens if completion is delayed
02

In the weeks before the move

Start with things you rarely use. Label boxes by destination room and keep a simple list of important contents. Arrange address changes directly with your providers and plan any mail redirection you need. Discuss furniture dismantling, appliance preparation and lift bookings with the appropriate people; do not leave them as assumptions for moving day.

03

The day before

Pack an essentials bag with medicines, chargers, toiletries, clothes and important documents. Keep a kettle, cups and basic cleaning items accessible. Follow manufacturer instructions for preparing appliances and arrange qualified help if disconnection is needed. Check the agreed arrival arrangements and keep phone numbers to hand.

04

On the day

Walk through the collection property with the crew. Identify what is staying, fragile pieces and the destination rooms. Keep children and pets away from loading routes. Before leaving, check cupboards and storage spaces, record meter readings where relevant and make sure the property is secured as agreed.

05

Before the crew leaves

Check the rooms against your plan and make sure you can access essentials. Raise any handling concerns promptly with the team and follow the agreed reporting process. Unpack in a useful order: sleeping arrangements, bathroom and everyday kitchen items usually make the first night easier than opening every box.
